Back in the early 90s, Sega gave the world Sonic the Hedgehog. And all was right with the world.
Now, I'm a huge Sonic fan. Along with the Ninja Turtles, Star Wars & Spider-Man, you have the four franchises which basically shaped the tastes I would develop as an adult. And back in the mid-90s, there was a Sonic comic that began publication by Archie, simply entitled Sonic the Hedgehog and basically following the same canon as the cartoon nicknamed "SatAM" by fans.
I am not talking about that comic.
No, being that I am English, I am in fact talking about Fleetway's Sonic the Comic. A completely different entity & canon to Archie's comic, STC was more of an anthology book - It featured at least one Sonic comic an issue, and originally featured three other comics based off games available on the Mega Drive - Such as Decap Attack, Streets of Rage, Shinobi & Kid Chameleon - but eventually, as the world that was being built in the Sonic stories grew, the non-Sonic stories shrunk down to just one an issue, and eventually just became a Decap Attack strip. Hilariously, the comic did sky pirates long before Sega released Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast.
But anyway, back to my point.
Considering it's the 10th Anniversary, I figured this would be a good juncture to post some scans from the first comic series I ever read, Sonic The Comic. And what would be more fitting than the hundredth issue of the series? I guess the tenth, but... 100 is more celebratory.

I love that when Sonic finally overthrows Robotnik, it's not because of his super speed, because he used his brain.
Super Sonic, being the psycho that he is, promptly sets about killing Sonic & the Freedom Fighters, as Robotnik's machines across Mobius stop functioning.

"According to my readings, Super Sonic has changed somehow... He is no longer able to store energy! In moment he'll be helpless! The explosion changed him in a way I don't understand..."
"As long as the creep is no longer a danger to us, who needs to understand?"
Sonic then has the Omni-Viewer transport him to the Floating Island, to check on the Emerald Hill folk (They moved there after Robotnik decided to wipe out the entire Zone for some reason or another). What's unknown to Sonic & the Freedom Fighters, however, is that Robotnik was teaming up with Dr. Zachary on the Floating Island at the time.
Zachary was another Echidna who turned out to be evil. In his first fight with Knuckles, Zachary suffered various injuries & repaired himself with cybernetic upgrades based on the anicent Echidnas weaponry - none of which was affected by the EMP.

With Robotnik in custody, Knuckles told Sonic to get off his property. Probably.
And thus began the longest party in the history of Mobius, and it was as wild as you'd expect from a comic based on the Sonic series.

Grimer, Robotnik's minion, freed Robotnik & the two fled into the sewers as everyone was distracted by Sonic fighting a steam powered mech. Really.
With Robotnik on the run, and everything for naught if he got his machines back online, Sonic was fighting against the clock. Eventually, he figured out that the Dr would have had a back-up generator in his Citadel, & burst in as Grimer was being forced to manually generate enough power to bring everything back online. Sonic proceeded to overload the generator, blowing up the remaining symbol of Robotnik's regime.

Whilst the comic continued on after Robotnik's defeat, it gradually began featuring more & more reprints, the last original story being the (Very loose) adaptation of Sonic Adventure which concluded in issue 184. It lasted another 39 issues before publication ceased.

Early in the series run, Sonic & friends were sent forward in time six months. In those six months, Dr Robotnik had conquered Mobius, setting up the status-quo that served the series for the bulk of it's run - Sonic leading the Freedom Fighters against Dr Robotnik's forces. However, whilst Archie's comic used the cast of the "SatAM" cartoon, STC did not - In addition to Sonic & Tails, the Freedom Fighters consisted of Amy Rose, Johnny Lightfoot & Porker Lewis, with an A.I. based off the brain patterns of Ovi Kintobor (Robotnik before an accident warped into our moustached made scientist). Notably, the three heroes who weren't original creations have vastly different personalities to any other depiction - Sonic was a jackass who routinely picks on Tails; Tails was older than usually depicted & somewhat of a push-over; and Amy, thanks to the Spice Girls & their "Girl Power!" craze, was stripped of her one sided crush on Sonic & instead as much a hero as Sonic was. Amusingly, Knuckles & Charmy are pretty much exactly the same as they would later be depicted in the games.
However, the biggest change to Sonic was the way Super Sonic was treated - as opposed to simply being a Super mode, Sonic would only transform into Super Sonic under great duress or after exposure to the chaos emeralds... And Super Sonic was an omnicidal maniac. Thankfully, Sonic's transformations into Super Sonic were few & far between, and whenever he did appear, he usually reverted back to Sonic after exhausting himself fighting a threat that Sonic & the Freedom Fighters couldn't defeat beforehand
Then issue 80 happened.
Sonic, visiting Porker Lewis on the Floating Island, slipped & fell into the beam of light that the Master & Chaos Emeralds were housed in, and transformed into Super Sonic. Subsequently, Super Sonic fought & seemingly killed the Freedom Fighters, before reverting to a horrified Sonic. Eventually, the Freedom Fighters revealed they were still alive & managed to drain Sonic & of the Chaos Energy through the use of a Special Zone post. Sonic would travel to the Special Zone to check Super Sonic was no longer a threat, only to find he had become his own entity. Working with Chaotix & the Omni-Viewer, Sonic was able to trap Super Sonic but at the cost of returning to Mobius.
This all built to issue 100, with Super Sonic free of the Omni-Viewer but still trapped inside an asteroid & about to force it to explode, creating an electromagnetic pulse in the process. In a moment of quick thinking, Sonic had the Omni-Viewer transport the asteroid out of the Special Zone to Mobius.
